Sikander Kher considers Ranbir Kapoor as colleague, not competitor
Ankurita | Oct 9 2007

As the race between the debutants from star families continues unabated in Bollywood, Skiander Kher, son of Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher is another recent rage in the tinsel town.

He may not really have extraordinary looks but neither did his parents. So even if he just inherits the acting prowess of his father and mother, then he has won half the game. All set to hit the screen in Sanjay Gupta’s musical thriller Woodstock Villa, Sikander assisted Bhansali earlier and was in news for reportedly dating actress Gul Panag and then model Shivani Kapoor .

According to sources, Sanjay Leela Bhansali made an announcement to sign Sikandar Kher for Saawariyan, but roped in Ranbir Kapoor instead.

Sikander, who also starred in a non-commercial film titled Summer of 2007, is very excited about the way his career is shaping up.

He feels that he has given his best for his launch movie as a commercial hero but considers that every new film is a stepping-stone for betterment and therefore, there is always room for improvement.

With the famed Khers as his patrons, this lad, who hates to be tagged as a chocolate hero has acting in his genes and has been inspired to be one among the acting fraternity since the age of 4. He considers Tom Cruise as his role model.

After watching Top Gun when he was 4 years old, he dreamt of being an Air Force pilot but gradually realized that he was actually trying to follow Tom Cruise. At this juncture, he realized that he wants to be an actor and wanted to be a part of the showbiz world.

As a kid, Sikander was overweight but his passion for being an actor didn’t wane out. Even when he reached 140 kgs he told people that he wanted to become a hero and not a villain or a comedian.

At that point he decided to get into a rigorous weight loss programme and it was Uday Chopra and Hrithik Roshan, (Sikandar’s childhood friends) to be the first ones to point out that he had begun to look thinner than before.

With proper diet and exercise, he lost 54 kilos in five months and his lean body now bears no trace of the fat and plump Sikander.

Sikander did not take regular acting lessons from his father in his acting school Actor Prepares but directly stepped into the real world by assisting likes of Bhansali and Yash Chopra in their films and thereby gathering practical knowledge.

The year 2007 also mark the debut of Ranbir Kapoor, son of Rishi and Neetu Kapoor. Ranbir is paired opposite Sonam Kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Saawariya.

Though critics have been considering the winner in the race of debutants, Sikander considers Ranbir as a colleague rather than a competitor.

Sikandar has already bagged his second film with Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Bachchan and John Abraham. Titled Raaste the film is being directed Apoorva Lakhia and is based on cross-country racing that takes place in Mexico.
